Gili Trawangan Hotel Photoshoot – Wilson Retreat

This photography project marks my second time working with Wilson Retreat Gili Trawangan since the resort was first built. The initial hotel photoshoot happened several years ago, capturing the early days of the retreat. After a series of renovations and the addition of brand-new buildings, the owner reached out to me again to refresh their visual identity. Being trusted for a second project is always special—it shows how important photography is in telling the ongoing story of a place as it grows and evolves.

Wilson Retreat Gili Trawangan is a peaceful beachfront escape designed for travelers who value comfort, privacy, and natural beauty. The retreat features thoughtfully designed villas, open spaces, and lush tropical surroundings that blend perfectly with the island’s relaxed atmosphere. From cozy interiors to inviting pools and beachfront lounging areas, every corner of Wilson Retreat is created to feel calm, warm, and effortlessly tropical—exactly the kind of place where guests can truly slow down and enjoy island life.

I always love photographing hotels in Gili Trawangan. The island has a unique vibe that’s hard to find elsewhere—no cars, no noise, just bicycles, horse carts, ocean breeze, and golden sunsets. It’s a mix of laid-back island life and vibrant energy, especially during sunrise and sunset hours.

The only real challenge in this project was timing and weather. Living in Bali means I had limited flexibility, as Bali and Gili Trawangan are separated by sea. I had to carefully watch the weather forecast and choose the best possible window, staying one or two nights to maximize light, skies, and overall atmosphere. When everything aligns—the weather, the light, and the calm energy of the island—Gili truly becomes a dream location to photograph.
