Family Photoshoot at Tegalalang Rice Terrace, Ubud – Alana’s Bali Holiday
Alana’s family of five — husband, wife, two children, and grandmother — visited Bali for a family holiday in May 2023. While staying in Ubud, they booked our short-time family photoshoot package to capture meaningful moments together during their trip. With three generations present, the session was focused on natural interaction, gentle guidance, and creating timeless family memories in one of Bali’s most iconic landscapes.
One of the most popular and beautiful photo locations around Ubud is the Tegalalang Rice Terrace. Known for its dramatic layered rice fields, lush tropical greenery, and peaceful atmosphere, Tegalalang offers a stunning natural backdrop that truly represents the charm of Bali. The best time to start a photoshoot here is early in the morning, just after sunrise, when the light is soft, fresh, and flattering — and before the area becomes crowded with tourists. This timing allows families to enjoy a more relaxed session and results in cleaner, more intimate photographs.
It is important to note that the rice field conditions in Tegalalang are not always the same throughout the year. The terraces are at their greenest during the growing period, when the rice is actively growing or almost ready to be harvested. During this phase, the fields appear in beautiful shades of vibrant green to green-yellow, which is equally stunning for photography. After the harvest season, the landscape will be more dominated by brown and earthy tones. While each phase has its own unique character, understanding these seasonal changes helps set the right expectations and allows families to appreciate the natural beauty of Tegalalang in every stage.
